GMAT score on résumé

A good GMAT score means putting in a lot of hard work and practice. During the GMAT exam you will showcase your ability to use your higher reasoning skills. Getting a high score on the GMAT puts you amongst some of the brightest people in business.

REASONS TO PUT YOUR GMAT SCORE ON YOUR RÉSUMÉ

There are a few reasons to put your GMAT score on your résumé. Like we said before, during the GMAT exam you will showcase your ability to use your higher reasoning skills. Considering both the time pressure and the fact that the GMAT exam is computer adaptive, which means every correct answer is followed by a harder question, getting a high score is quite the accomplishment. Therefore a high GMAT score is something to be proud of. Not really sure what a high GMAT score is? To paint a little picture for you, a GMAT score of 700 puts you (approximately) in the top 10% of all GMAT test takers.

REASONS NOT TO PUT YOUR GMAT SCORE ON YOUR RÉSUMÉ

There also are some reasons not to put your GMAT score on your résumé. On one hand, as you might have read in blogs on other websites, some people find this pretentious. However, this will always be a personal opinion. Another reason is a little more obvious; you didn’t score very high on your GMAT exam. Possible employers might think less of you if you mention a pretty average GMAT score. There also is another way your GMAT score could send the wrong message to an employer. If you took the GMAT, but haven’t started at a Business School yet, your possible future employer might think you’ll leave the company as soon as you get accepted to the business school of your choice.

Conclusion

In the end, it’s all up to you whether you want to put your GMAT score on your résumé or not. There is no distinct guideline for this. If you feel that your GMAT score is an outstanding performance, or it is relevant in some other way, put it on there. If your GMAT score adds no value to your past work- and other experiences, leave it off.

However, we recommend always aiming for the highest GMAT score possible.
